Good-bye Lucky

We had a busy and fun last day of school before break!  Lucky the Leprechaun came back for one last visit and dropped off some magic juice for the students!  It had a warning that if the teacher drank it her feet would turn green! Needless to say the children just had to find out if it was true or not, so at the moment I have some very green feet for spring break!  Have a wonderful break, enjoy the outdoors, read, read, read, and I will see everyone back on the 31st!

Leprechaun fun and more!

Our day began with the discovery that the leprechaun sprung our trap!  However, he did manage to get away, but he left behind a special treat! After adding 6 cups of milk to his magic powder, we discovered that he had left us pistachio pudding!  The children throughly enjoyed this special treat!  We have a second trap set for tonight, maybe we will get lucky and catch him tomorrow!

In the afternoon, we pretended to be paleontologists!  We explored the website: Virtual Dinosaur Dig and discovered the steps a paleontologist takes when digging for dinosaurs!  Afterwards, we went to our tables and dug out "bones" (aka chocolate chips) with a chisel (aka toothpick)!    We then recorded how many chocolate chips each child was able to dig out and we talked about the results.

Leprechaun Trap!

The kiddos were excited today to build a trap and attempt to catch that tricky leprechaun!  We tried to make it look like a party inside, so the leprechaun will hopefully want to come check it out!  Thanks to Alayna and Elizabeth for making our sign telling him about the party! We will wait and see what happens tomorrow!

Classroom Visitors!

Our classroom has been busy with visitors today!   Our first visitor was that crazy leprechaun!  Yesterday we discovered his rope and arrival in our classroom via the classroom bathroom! We have been busy watching for him, hoping to get his gold!  Today he came again while we were down at the computer lab!  He messed up our room big time But he was kind enough to leave us some lucky shamrock coins!  He left behind his little black pot, so we are hoping he comes back to visit again!  Below are a few pictures showing the mess he left behind!

Our next visitor were some ladies from the Barabook National Bank!  They came in to talk to our class about all the different coins and how to save our coins as well!  The kids were able to do rubbings of the different coins! What fun!

After spring break the students will be earning money at school for positive choices and working towards getting a dollar to spend at the dollar store! More details on this after spring break!

Below are a few snapshots of the students doing their coin rubbings!

Math Center Fun!

Math centers in our classroom are very hands-on to give the students a fun way to approach various math concepts.  Here are two pictures of students working hard at math centers!

The picture above is a student building a tower of ten and then two more.  He then clipped the number and card together!  The students enjoy this type of center!

The picture above is a student using an i-pad to scan a QR code to check her answer on an addition fact.  The students do a great job with the i-pads and love using them at stations!
